Here’s the latest update from on the battle for Mosul, Iraq.

According to field reporters, Iraqi soldiers and special security teams are warning that the battle for Mosul in northern Iraq “would be long and grueling”, especially since ISIS/ISIL forces are adding more forces and equipment to the struggle.

On Sunday, 30 October 2016, Iraqi army and security forces recaptured a town about 30 km/20 miles to the north of Mosul in an attempt to surround the city of 1.5 million.  Mosul is the headquarters of ISIS/ISIL forces in the northern part of Iraq.

Iranian-backed Iraqi Shi’ite militia fighters have launched an offensive to seize territory west of the embattled city.  Anti-ISIS/ISIL forces based along the Turkish/Iraqi border may join the fight in the next few days.

U.S. aircraft are providing ground support for advancing Iraqi units.
