In a wide-ranging telephone conversation today, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin have vowed to co-operate on a variety of international issues, noting “the extremely unsatisfactory state of Russian-U.S. relations.”
The mostly business-like discussion between the two world leaders opens the possibility of closer cooperation in ongoing struggle to cripple ISIS/ISIL operations in eastern Syria and northern Iraq.
For his part, Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin tells Sky News:
“It is not an easy path, but we are ready to do our part and do everything to return Russian and American relations to a stable path of development.”
“This would be good for both the Russian and American people and have a positive impact on the climate of world affairs.”
According to Sky News, Mr. Trump is viewed as friendly toward Mr. Putin.
Outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama has had a difficult and often disappointing working relationship with Mr. Putin.
