The nearly three-weeks old truce in the Syrian city of Aleppo is over, as Syrian and Russian military aircraft pounded the eastern portions of that ancient city on Tuesday, 15 November 2016.
According to Syrian state television, the attack has been called a “preliminary operation” against ISIS/ISIL fighters dug in on the eastern rim of the city.
CNN reporters say Russian ground attack aircraft are involved in the fighting:
“According to Syrian state television, the army is making a ground push in several areas to tighten their siege of rebel-held neighborhoods, and has cut off supply lines from the rebel-held province of Idlib in the north.”
One anchor referred to today’s airstrikes as “zero hour” for a wide-scale assault on terrorism across the country, including airstrikes by the Russian Air Force.”
Although there is an escape corridor established by Syrian forces, few residents of the embattled city are taking advantage of the temporary exit.
