It’s seems President-elect Donald Trump knows just about everything, including the finer details of geopolitical intelligence. According to reporter Justin Carissimo, Mr. Trump says he’s “stepping out on intelligence briefings” since he won November’s general election.
Mr. Trump tells “Fox News Sunday” that “I get it when I need it”, adding that “very good people are giving me briefings–I’m available on one minute’s notice.”
The President-elect says it’s important that his military and political advisers know the details while he concentrates on the broader picture.
Mr. Trump wrapped up the interview by saying:
“I’m, like, a smart person,” he explained Sunday. “I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years – but eight years. I don’t need that.”
“And I’m being briefed also,” he said, “but if they’re going to come in and tell me the exact same thing that they tell me – you know, it doesn’t change, necessarily.”
As a former USAF intelligence officer, I find Mr. Trump’s stand on this issue alarming, if not dangerous. As Commander-In-Chief, he should know as much or more than his subordinate staff. He needs the intelligence community on his side so he can be appraised of fast moving conditions in our ever increasing dangerous world. No one knows everything.
