Hundreds of thousands of people from labor unions, health care organizations, and women’s rights groups are expected to hold a massive march and rally on 21 January 2016 in Washington, D.C. following the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States. While the rally in the nation’s capital will be the largest labor union march in years, smaller events mirroring the Washington march will be held throughout the country.

“Press Associates” editor Mark Gruenberg tells EIN News that protests will be held across the nation to protest plans by Mr. Trump and his supporters to suppress the rights of free assembly and free speech:

“Many of the organizations participating in the marches have already launched long terms plans of resistance to the Trump administration. They aim to fight Trump’s every attempt to rollback progress that has been made toward social equality and economic justice.”

“The Washington, D.C. march will also put the spotlight on Trump’s history of misogyny, his record of harassment of women, his anti-worker plans and his Cabinet picks.”

“We will send a strong message to the incoming administration that millions of people across this country are prepared to fight attacks on reproductive health care, abortion services, and access to Planned Parenthood, as they intersect with the rights of young people, people of color, immigrants, and people of all faiths, backgrounds, and incomes,” Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, said in a statement.

Planned Parenthood is running the logistics, safety, security, volunteers and digital promotion of the march.

The Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), the AFL-CIO and many unions are helping to coordinate the march and will bring their members to it.

Gloria Steinem and Harry Belafonte are scheduled to speak.”

Carol Rosenblatt, the Executive Director of the Coalition of Labor Union Women, adds that the AFL-CIO and other union organization are helping to coordinate the event.

It appears that organized labor is returning the “Million Man March” playbook to force the new administration to reverse what labor unions call anti-immigrant, anti-labor, and anti-freedom initiatives outlined by President-elect Donald Trump.

Mr. Trump will soon find himself in the midst of an angry protest as he assumes office on 20 January 2017.
